Custom Doors — Built to Your Spec in Los Angeles
Sometimes a stock door doesn't fit. Non-standard rough opening, a wood species we don't carry off the shelf, a panel design from a reference photo, a finish that has to match an existing door — that's what custom is for. THE DOORFATHER builds custom interior and entry doors for LA and Orange County homes: any size, any wood species, any finish, any panel layout. Lead time typically 4–8 weeks. Call (424) 466-7707 with your spec or your reference photos and we'll work up a quote.
What we can build custom
- Any size — non-standard widths and heights, oversized doors up to 60"×120" routinely, larger on request
- Wood species: mahogany, walnut, white oak, alder, cherry, teak, bamboo, knotty pine, primed MDF, and more
- Panel design: match a reference photo, an architectural drawing, or a door we've built before
- Glass & ironwork: beveled, leaded, frosted, etched; wrought iron speakeasy windows and decorative grilles
- Hand-carved details: custom relief carving, motifs, and panel work for statement entries
- Finish: stained, painted, distressed, oiled, or unfinished for on-site finishing
- Hardware: integrated handle, lock, hinge, and threshold spec — we coordinate the whole assembly
- Prehung assembly: custom doors hung in a custom-built jamb, ready to install
How custom orders work
- 1. Inquiry — call or email with your rough opening, reference photos, and any architectural drawings you have
- 2. Design — we work up a spec sheet and 3D renders if needed; revisions are part of the process
- 3. Quote — fixed-price quote with timeline, materials, finish, and hardware itemized
- 4. Build — once approved and 50% deposit received, we move into production (4–8 weeks typical)
- 5. Delivery — shipped to your job site, or curbside pickup at our San Dimas warehouse with full assembly QC
What drives custom pricing
- Wood species — mahogany and walnut are premium; alder and oak are mid-range; primed MDF and pine are entry-level
- Size — oversized doors require thicker stock and reinforced jambs, both of which add cost
- Carving & ironwork — hand-carved relief and custom wrought iron grilles add labor; complexity drives the line
- Glass — beveled, leaded, etched, and decorative inserts add cost vs plain panel
- Finish — multi-step stained, hand-distressed, and matched-to-existing finishes add labor
- Quantity — multi-door orders for builders and contractors get volume pricing
Quotes are fixed once approved — no surprises mid-build.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a custom door take?
Typically 4–8 weeks from approved spec to ready-to-ship. Heavily carved doors and large iron doors run toward the longer end. We confirm a hard date in writing before production starts.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes — 50% deposit upfront once spec and quote are approved. Balance due before shipping. We accept ACH, wire, and credit card (3% fee on credit for orders over $5,000).
Can I provide my own design or reference photos?
Yes — most custom orders start that way. Send us reference photos, architectural drawings, hardware specs, or a written description. We'll work up a build spec and confirm everything before quoting.
Can you match an existing door I have?
Usually yes. Send us photos, dimensions, and notes on the wood species and finish if you know them. For very old or hand-carved doors, we may need to inspect the original — drop it at our San Dimas facility or schedule a site visit.
Are custom doors returnable?
No — custom orders are final sale. We confirm every spec twice and provide design previews before production starts to make sure the build matches expectations. See our returns page for full policy.
Do you handle installation?
We don't install in-house — we partner with professional door installers we trust across LA and Orange County. We'll connect you with the right installer for your project.
Have a custom door in mind?
Send us a description, dimensions, or reference photos. We'll respond within one business day with next steps and ballpark pricing — no obligation.
