Prehung means we ship your door already mounted in its jamb, hinges installed, ready to drop into the rough opening. THE DOORFATHER assembles prehung interior and entry doors in our Los Angeles facility — 4-9/16", 5-1/4", 5-1/2", or 6-9/16" jamb widths, single or double, left or right swing, in or outswing, with your choice of hinge finish, threshold, and weatherstripping. Prehung adds a few hundred dollars to a slab door price, depending on configuration:

- Premium hinges: oil-rubbed bronze / matte black +$35, antique brass +$45

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a slab door and a prehung door?
A slab is just the door panel — no frame, no hinges, no hardware. You install it into an existing jamb. A prehung unit comes pre-assembled in its own jamb with hinges installed and the door pre-bored for the handle. Prehung is faster to install (1–2 hours per door for a carpenter) and you get factory-precise alignment. Slab is for replacing an existing door where the jamb is in good shape.
How long does prehung assembly take?
Typically 1–3 business days for stock doors — most prehung units leave our facility within a few days of order. Custom doors run 4–8 weeks (assembly happens after the slab is built). We'll confirm a hard ship date when you place the order.
Do you assemble in-house or outsource?
In-house. We don't outsource prehung assembly to a third party — we build every unit ourselves at our LA facility. That's why we can offer custom jamb widths, swap-in custom hinges, and respond to spec changes mid-build.
Can you build a prehung from a door I already own?
Yes. Bring or ship the slab to our San Dimas facility and we'll build the prehung around it. We charge for the jamb, hinges, hardware, and assembly only. Call (424) 466-7707 to walk through your slab specs and get a quote.
What if my rough opening is non-standard?
We can build to non-standard dimensions. Most homes built before 1980 have non-standard rough openings; we handle that all the time. Send us your rough opening dimensions (width, height, jamb depth) and we'll build to fit. There may be a small custom-jamb-width charge.
Do you install too?
We don't install in-house — we partner with professional door installers we trust across LA and Orange County. We'll connect you with the right installer for your project. Our prehung units arrive ready to drop in — install time is typically 1–2 hours per door for an experienced carpenter.
Can a contractor open a wholesale account?
Yes. We work with LA and OC contractors regularly — multi-door projects get volume pricing, and established accounts can run net-30 terms. Send your contractor's license to info@thedoorfather.com to get set up.
What's the return policy on prehung?
Prehung-assembled units are final sale. Once we cut the jamb and install hinges, the unit is built to your spec and not resaleable. We confirm every spec twice before assembly to make sure we get it right the first time. See our returns page for the full policy.
